EDDIE GRAY, Marching On Together

Eddie Gray was born on January 17, 1948, in Glasgow, Scotland, and emerged as one of the most talented wingers of his generation. Spotted as a Scottish schoolboy international, he signed for Leeds United at just 16 years old, making his debut on New Year's Day 1966. His exceptional skill and creativity quickly made him a fan favorite at Elland Road.
During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Gray was a crucial part of Don Revie's legendary Leeds United team. He was instrumental in the club's most successful period, helping Leeds win two League Championships (1969 and 1974), the FA Cup in 1972, and the League Cup in 1968. His technical ability and dribbling skills were legendary, with one of his goals against Burnley in 1970 still considered one of the greatest goals in Leeds United history.
Internationally, Gray represented Scotland 12 times between 1969 and 1977, scoring three goals. Despite facing numerous injury challenges throughout his career, he remained a loyal one-club man, making 579 appearances for Leeds United and scoring 69 goals. Remarkably, he was never booked during his entire playing career, a testament to his skill and sportsmanship.
After hanging up his boots, Gray transitioned into coaching and management. He had multiple spells as manager of Leeds United, with his most prominent tenure being from 1982 to 1985. Later in his career, he became a respected football ambassador and mentor.
Currently, Eddie Gray serves as a Football Ambassador for Leeds United, representing the club at community and commercial events, fans forums, and various other arenas. His services to football were recognized in 1983 when he was made an MBE, and he remains a beloved figure among Leeds United supporters.
