Sir Robert William "Bobby" Robson was one of English football's most beloved figures. Born on February 18, 1933, in Sacriston, County Durham, he began his playing career at Fulham in 1950. His talent as an inside forward saw him move to West Bromwich Albion in 1956, where he truly made his mark. During his playing days, he earned 20 caps for England, scoring four goals and representing his country with distinction.
Robson's managerial career would surpass his playing achievements after he retired.  He began at Fulham but truly established himself during a remarkable 13-year spell at Ipswich Town, where he won the FA Cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup in 1981. His greatest challenge came when he took charge of the England national team in 1982, leading them to the World Cup semi-finals in 1990. His subsequent club career took him across Europe, winning league titles with PSV Eindhoven, Porto, and Barcelona, before returning home to manage his beloved Newcastle United.
Sir Bobby Robson passed away on July 31, 2009, at the age of 76, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. However, his legacy lives on through the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, which he established in 2008 to help fund cancer research and treatment. The foundation continues to do remarkable work in his name, and his influence on football remains strong through the many managers he mentored, including José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, who often speak of his lasting impact on their careers.
