Last Boy of ’66: My story of England’s World Cup winning team
by Sir Geoff Hurst

England gets four. Hurst gets three. Pictures of us having a good time have entered the country's photo collection. trophy high, grinning into the future. Banksy, George, Jack, Mooro, Ray, Nobby, Bally, Bobby, Martin, and Roger are my ten teammates. These individuals serve as my associates. They were my former companions. Now, they've all vanished. Heroes from a vanishing period are disappearing before our eyes. But the story is far from over. It's not quite finished yet. One of them remains, and before he departs, Geoff wishes to write down his parting thoughts on 1966. He discusses Alf Ramsay, highlighting his vision, ambition, and commitment. In addition, he was awkward and shy. His teammates are devoted professionals who work hard and maintain their composure, especially Jimmy Greaves. Geoff narrates their narrative as a group, delving deeper to consider their triumph and how it affected their lives. For the Boys of '66, it was a journey of bittersweet goodbyes. They let their team go unnoticed and wasted their heritage. However, what the eleven of them had in common was something no other Englishman had ever known. For the final time, Geoff gathers them all together to see their historic moment.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
When Geoff Hurst became the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final in 1966, he cemented a special position in football history and helped England win their one and only World Cup. Before going to Stoke City and then transitioning into coaching and management, he played the outstanding majority of his career with West Ham United. In 1998, Sir Geoff received a knighthood, and in 2004, he was admitted into the English Football Hall of Fame. He has solidified his status as one of English football's most recognisable characters. Beyond the beautiful games, Sir Geoff serves as an ambassador for Sue Ryder and donates his time to support a number of charity organisations, including the Alzheimer's Society. He and his spouse, Judith, reside in Gloucestershire. It is his sixth novel.
