Do I not like that it takes you inside? Graham Taylor's often ridiculed time in charge of the England team. Taylor’s style of football was often criticised, but it got results, most famously taking Watford to the top flight. It was this that helped him land the England job, a position that comes with an untold amount of pressure. Nevertheless, Taylor was a proud Englishman and wanted nothing but the best for his country as far as football was concerned. His job was made a little harder since his predecessor had taken the national team to the brink of glory. Now, though, it was his turn. Inheriting an ageing squad that suffered some cruel injuries, Taylor took to the task well. But soon his tenure started to unravel, and poor results meant he was vilified in a way never seen before. By the end of a failed World Cup qualifying campaign, he had been battered and bruised, but he still held his head high with pride.

About the Author Jordan is the author of five books, two of which detail big moments for the team he supports. His 2022 book covered the 1988 shock FA Cup triumph of Wimbledon FC, and a previous work told the story of how Wimbledon returned to Plough Lane after three decades away. This is his second book to cover the national team. The first, Out of the Shadows, was about England's 1982 World Cup journey.
