Billy Bingham was a remarkable figure in British football, both as a player and manager. His playing career began at Glentoran before moving to England, where he enjoyed successful spells with Sunderland, Luton Town, and Everton. A talented outside-right, Bingham earned 56 caps for Northern Ireland and was part of the squad that reached the 1958 World Cup. His club career peaked when he won the English league title with Everton in 1963 before finishing his playing days at Port Vale. As a manager, Bingham achieved legendary status, particularly with Northern Ireland. His greatest achievements came when he led his country to consecutive World Cup finals in 1982 and 1986 – a remarkable feat for a small nation. Under his guidance, Northern Ireland also claimed British Championship victories in 1980 and 1984. His tactical acumen and ability to get the best out of his players earned him widespread respect throughout the football world. Sadly, Billy Bingham passed away on June 9, 2022, at the age of 90. He had lived with dementia for 16 years before his peaceful passing in a nursing home in Southport. His legacy lives on as Northern Ireland's most successful manager, and his contributions to football were recognised with an MBE for services to the sport in 1981. This well-preserved hardcover book comes complete with its original dust jacket. The volume is in good condition throughout, showing only minimal signs of age. Light shelf wear is concentrated at the spine's top and bottom edges. The pages display very faint foxing along their outer edges – a common occurrence in vintage books. The dust jacket has a small 2.5cm tear along the back portion but remains intact and protective. A solid copy that would make a fine addition to any collection.
