This book tells in vivid pictorial detail the story of one of the world's oldest football clubs. From its formation as a team for local amateur enthusiasts, to its emergence as one of the front-runners in the Nationwide First Division, this collection of over 200 photographs traces the history of one of England's best-known clubs. The championship victories of I926 in 1976, 1979, and I986 in 1994, as well as the Simod win of 1988 and the Wembley play-off drama of 1995. But the book illustrates more than just players and matches; it features the backroom staff, the supporters, all kinds of memorabilia, programmes and some amusing and unusual incidents. It also contains many scenes of Elm Park, the home of Reading FC for one hundred and one years, now in its last season. This illustrated history has been compiled by David Downs, a lifelong supporter of the club and its official historian and statistician. lt is a unique and fitting tribute to a club that has experienced more than its share of excitement and trauma. It marks a turning point in the club’s progress, as preparations are made~for the move to a new all-seater stadium.
