English football player Duncan Edwards, who was born on October 1, 1936, and passed away on February 21, 1958, was a left-half for both Manchester United and the England national team. He played 177 games for United as a member of the Busby Babes, a youthful squad assembled in the middle of the 1950s under manager Matt Busby. He is regarded as one of the all-time hardest players because of his physical prowess, toughness, and degree of authority on the field. He was one of the eight players who perished in the Munich flight accident; two weeks after his injuries kept him alive, he passed away in the hospital. He was regarded by many of his peers as one of the finest players they had ever played with, if not the best.

Edwards, who was born in Woodside, Dudley, became the youngest player to play in the Football League First Division and the youngest player from England since the Second World War when he signed with Manchester United as a youngster. He went on to play 18 top-tier matches for his nation. Over the course of his less than five-year professional career, he helped United win two Football League titles, two FA Charity Shields, and go to the European Cup semifinals.
