Red Dawn
The Ballad of Tom Watson and Liverpool FC's First Champions
By Jeff Goulding AND and Kieran Smith

Red Dawn: The Ballad of Tom Watson and Liverpool FC's First Champions is a remarkable narrative that recounts the journey of Tom Watson, a man from the North East of England, who ignited the flame that resulted in the Anfield club's inaugural two top-flight titles in 1901 and 1906. Watson was a visionary whose recruitment strategy, diet advice to athletes, and training methods would undoubtedly provoke controversy in the contemporary era. Nevertheless, he would establish the foundation for success that would enable him to become Liverpool's longest-serving manager. Watson's team was comprised of the most exceptional athletes of their era, such as the heroic commander Alex Raisbeck and lethal marksman Sam Raybould. Additionally, the incomparable Matt McQueen, who would later become a title-winning manager, was a member of the team. Red Dawn is the second collaboration between Jeff Goulding and Kieran Smith. Similar to their previous title, The Untouchables: Anfield's Band of Brothers, the book illuminates a previously unrecognised era in the club's history.
