Gerrard: My Autobiography

Steven Gerrard was born on May 30, 1980, in Whiston, Merseyside, and emerged as one of Liverpool's most iconic and influential players in the club's storied history. From a young age, he was a passionate local talent who joined Liverpool's youth academy at just eight years old, quickly rising through the ranks to make his first-team debut in 1998 at the age of 18.
Throughout his remarkable career, Gerrard became synonymous with Liverpool Football Club, spending an incredible 17 years at Anfield. He was a transformative midfielder known for his exceptional vision, thunderous long-range shots, and extraordinary leadership. His ability to single-handedly change the course of a match became legendary, particularly evident in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul, where he inspired Liverpool's miraculous comeback against AC Milan.
Internationally, Gerrard represented England with distinction, earning 114 caps and captaining the national team from 2006 to 2010. He participated in multiple World Cups and European Championships, becoming a central figure in England's golden generation of footballers. Despite never winning a major tournament with England, he was widely respected for his consistent performances and unwavering commitment to the national team.
His trophy cabinet at Liverpool was impressively diverse: one UEFA Champions League, two UEFA Cups, three League Cups, two FA Community Shields, one FA Cup, and most significantly, the Premier League title that had eluded him for so long. In 2005, he was named UEFA Club Footballer of the Year and received numerous individual accolades that cemented his status as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation.
After leaving Liverpool in 2015, Gerrard had a brief but notable stint with LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer, before returning to England to begin his managerial career. In November 2021, he was appointed manager of Aston Villa, taking over from Dean Smith. However, his tenure was short-lived, and he was dismissed in November 2022 after a series of poor results, marking a challenging start to his managerial career in the Premier League.
Following his Aston Villa departure, Gerrard took over as manager of Rangers in Scotland, leading the team to their first Scottish Premiership title in a decade. Subsequently, he moved to Saudi Arabia, managing Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League. However, he left the club by mutual consent in January 2025 after 18 months, with the team struggling in the bottom half of the table. Currently, he is seeking a new managerial opportunity.
