Raymond Glendenning's Book of Sport for Boys 1953

通常価格 £45.00 £0.00
A Sporting Legacy from Britain's Voice of Sport. The fourth edition of this prestigious annual stands as a remarkable snapshot of British sports culture in the early 1950s, featuring contributions from the era's most celebrated athletes and sporting personalities. Raymond Glendenning, one of Britain's most prominent sports commentators, brought unprecedented credibility to the series. As the BBC's leading sports voice from the early 1940s, his expertise and reputation made this annual series a must-have for young sports enthusiasts.
This 1953 edition features an impressive roster of sporting legends:
Football
Stanley Matthews: Fresh from his legendary performance in the 1953 FA Cup Final at age 38
George Swindon
Wally Barnes
Cricket
Len Hutton: Who made history as England's first professional captain
Godfrey Evans
Patsy Hendren
Other Sports Stars
Geoff Duke
E. McDonald Bailey
Freddie Mills
Joanny Leach
Jack Young
W. Barrington Dalby
The book featured fiction stories by Frank Richards, better known as the creator of Billy Bunter. Richards was one of the most popular authors of boys' school stories, bringing his storytelling expertise to this sporting annual.
The fourth edition includes:
32 pages of photographs
Competitive elements:
Sports quizzes
Crossword puzzles
Various competitions
This combination of practical sporting knowledge, celebrity contributions, and interactive elements made the 1953 edition a comprehensive guide for young sports enthusiasts of the post-war era.
The annual is in excellent condition; the red boards are bright and spotless, the binding is very tight, and all pages are also clean and bright. We are unable to remove the tape marks left at the top and bottom of the dust jacket, which show minor shelf wear. These marks are also visible on the back. The competition form on page 150 has been completed by the previous owner, a young boy. We thoroughly cleaned and overhauled the dust jacket before covering it with our Archival Dust Jacket System. The dust jacket has certainly done its job for the last 73 years.
