The selection includes action photographs, team groups, player portraits, cartoons and programme covers and gives a fascinating glimpse into the famous Black Country team's past. Albion had been in existence for more than twenty years when, on September 3 1900, their present ground was officially opened with a Football League game against Derby County. Since that day more than 2,000 competitive first team matches have taken place inside the stadium, including FA Cup and League Cup semi-finals, European encounters and international matches featuring England, lreland, Belgium and Wales. Above all, some of the greatest footballers in Britain — even in the world —— have performed on the hallowed turf. Of course, Albion have had many stars of their own, with the likes of Jesse Pennington, Tommy Glidden, Teddy Sandford, ]oe Carter, ‘WC.’ Richardson, Ronnie Allen, Ray Barlow, Derek Kevan, Tony Brown (the club's record appearance maker and champion goalscorer), ]eff Astle, Cyrille Regis, Laurie Cunningham, Derek Statham, Willie johnston, Bob Taylor and Lee Hughes all donning the famous navy blue and white striped shirt.
