From Bottom to Brilliance
The Lou Macari Revolution
As a family of passionate Swindon supporters, I eagerly anticipated reading this book about one of our club's most significant transformations. The way the author captures the electric atmosphere of those Macari years brought back floods of memories. I found myself totally immersed in the story of how this Manchester United legend took our club from the depths of Division Four to the brink of top-flight football.
The detail about the record-breaking 1985-86 season had me reliving every moment as we amassed an incredible 102 points to win the Division Four title. The author's description of the successive promotion through the play-offs the following year perfectly captures the rollercoaster of emotions we all went through. What really got me was how the book doesn't just focus on the victories but delves into the fascinating behind-the-scenes dynamics between Macari and the board.
Reading about those five remarkable years under Macari reminded me why this period means so much to Town supporters. The book adeptly blends detailed match accounts with the human stories that shaped this era's uniqueness. It's a must-read for anyone who lived through those years or wants to understand why we old-timers still talk about the Macari era with such reverence. My only complaint is that it ended too soon, much like Macari's time with us. It ended too soon, just like Macari's time with us.
