Jimmy Greaves stands as one of England's most prolific strikers in football history. Beginning his career at Chelsea in 1957, he showcased his extraordinary talent by scoring 132 goals in just 169 appearances. His goal-scoring prowess continued when he joined Tottenham Hotspur, where he became the club's all-time leading scorer with 266 goals in 379 matches. Greaves also represented England internationally, netting an impressive 44 goals in 57 appearances and setting a record of six hat-tricks for his country that still stands today. Despite being part of England's 1966 World Cup-winning squad, an injury in the group stages unfortunately kept him from playing in the final. His remarkable career included stints at AC Milan and West Ham United, and he finished with a total of 357 goals in the English top flight – a record that remains unbroken.
Jimmy Greaves sadly passed away on September 19, 2021, at his home in Little Baddow, aged 81. In his later years, he had faced health challenges, including a severe stroke in 2015 that left him wheelchair-bound and with impaired speech. Before his passing, he spent his final day watching cricket, surrounded by his wife Irene and their four children. His legacy lives on as one of football's greatest-ever goalscorers.
