Big Ron: A Different Ball Game

Ron Atkinson, nicknamed "Big Ron", was born on March 18, 1939, in Liverpool, England, and became a significant figure in British football both as a player and manager. Though his playing career was relatively modest, he made his mark in the football world primarily through his managerial achievements.
As a manager, Atkinson truly distinguished himself, most notably during his tenure at Manchester United from 1981 to 1986. During this period, he won two FA Cups in 1983 and 1985, establishing himself as a prominent coach. His tactical innovations and attacking philosophy made Manchester United an exciting team to watch during the early 1980s. 
Following his Manchester United stint, Atkinson went on to manage Aston Villa, where he continued his success by winning the League Cup in 1994. He was known for his ability to develop young talent and play attractive, attacking football. Throughout his managerial career, he also managed other clubs, including West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield Wednesday.

Despite controversies later in his career, Atkinson remained a respected figure in English football, remembered for his significant contributions to the sport both on the sidelines and in the commentary box.

He works for MUTV (Manchester United's television channel) and appears as a pundit on various platforms, including William Hill's podcast The Punt. He remains a popular figure for corporate engagements and football-related events .
