DAVID PLATT ACHIEVING THE GOAL

David Platt, born on June 10, 1966, in Chadderton, England, began his professional career with Crewe Alexandra in the lower divisions, where his goal-scoring ability from midfield first caught attention. His talent soon led to a move to Aston Villa in 1988, where he truly emerged as one of England's most exciting prospects. At Villa, he developed into a complete midfielder, earning the PFA Players' Player of the Year award in 1990 and establishing himself as one of the First Division's standout performers.
His international breakthrough came at the 1990 World Cup in Italy, where he scored a memorable volleyed goal against Belgium in the last minute of extra time to send England into the quarter-finals. This moment launched him into international stardom, and he went on to earn 62 caps for England between 1989 and 1996, scoring 27 goals and serving as captain for three years.
The early 1990s saw Platt become one of England's most successful football exports, as he embarked on an Italian adventure that would define his career. He played for Bari (1991-1992), Juventus (1992-1993), and Sampdoria (1993-1995), adapting brilliantly to Serie A's tactical sophistication. During this period, he won the UEFA Cup with Juventus and the Coppa Italia with Sampdoria, earning respect from Italian fans and media for his technical ability and professionalism.
In 1995, Platt returned to England, joining Arsenal for £4.75 million. His experience and goal-scoring ability proved valuable to the Gunners, and he crowned his career by helping Arsenal win the Premier League and FA Cup double in 1998. After this triumph, he moved into coaching, having established himself as one of England's finest midfielders of the 1990s, known for his intelligent play, goal-scoring prowess, and ability to succeed across different football cultures.
